China's AgiBot Unveils European Partner Platform in London

AgiBot used a recent London product launch to introduce a European partner platform and showcase its range of humanoid robots, offering a snapshot of the broader effort by Chinese robotics companies to expand into Europe.

The Shanghai-based company also debuted a software tool platform tailored for partners and promoted the robot-as-a-service model during the UK Agibot Partner Conference on June 30.

Buying robots outright is extremely expensive, but monthly subscription models lower the barrier for enterprise clients, AgiBot executives said. In addition, the firm's interactive models can not only run on cloud servers but also locally on the robot's hardware to safeguard user privacy, they stressed.

Since launching its European business last October, AgiBot has formed sales partnerships in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and several Nordic countries, Sandy Liu, its European business representative, told Yicai. Those efforts have already yielded positive results, Liu noted, with revenues generated by local partners likely accounting for 8 percent of AgiBot's total income this year.

Education and scientific research are the main areas in which Agibot's products are used in Europe, with many university professors needing humanoid robots for research projects, according to Liu. The second key customer group is large enterprises, particularly in the automotive sector and major warehousing and logistics operations, Liu said.

From the perspective of European partners, the competitiveness of Chinese robot makers extends far beyond hardware, said Pau Bofi, chief technology officer of Airight Spot, AgiBot’s official distributor in Spain. Chinese brands bring not only technology but also a complete ecosystem to Europe, he said, adding that they are also strongly advancing open-source robotics and artificial intelligence. That is one of the most important trends shaping the industry's future, Bofi noted.

The public's biggest concern has been whether robots will displace human workers, but that has not materialized, said Ben Lavell, founder of Concept Technology, a UK technology provider specializing in infrastructure and digital solutions for major retailers and logistics firms.

China's robot export topped CNY20 billion (USD3 billion) in the first five months of this year, shipping out to more than 150 countries and regions, with the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations as key destinations, according to customs data.

Global humanoid robot shipments surged more than four times to about 13,000 units last year, with the vast majority supplied by Chinese manufacturers, according to data from industry research group Omdia.
