Shanghai Xuhui Cloud Hospital in Xuhui District was granted the city's first Internet hospital license for a public hospital on Wednesday.
The hospital's app allows patients to make online inquiries and appointments and has served about 1.8 million people, with 170,000 registered users, over the past four years.
The information of doctors is displayed on the app, and all have independent clinical work experience of at least three years. They can provide cloud-based inquiry services to patients.
After receiving the license, the hospital will see its function expanded further, said Zhu Fu, executive president of the hospital.
Patients will be able to receive "face-to-face" diagnosis and treatment from doctors in respiratory, endocrinology and neurology departments, among others, thus further widening their medical services, said Zhu.
During the coronavirus pneumonia outbreak, free inquiry and treatment services are provided by the hospital via app and WeChat.
