Shanghai design poll attracts global entrie   2024-08-13

The annual Shanghai Design 100+ program is seeking exceptional designs from around the world by launching a seven-day public poll starting Monday, according to official sources.

The organizer, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, reports that 2,745 design entries have been collected from 19 nations and regions, including the United States, France, Italy, and Brazil. This represents an 8 percent increase compared to last year.

Experts have handpicked 300 designs as finalists, said Chen Jianlin, deputy director of the consumer goods and fashion industry development department at the Shanghai Commission of Economy and Informatization. These have been categorized into five areas: industries, fashion and lifestyle, healthy living, city service, and insights of the future.

Since joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a "City of Design" in 2010, Shanghai has seen its creative and design industry flourish. The city has achieved remarkable progress in developing its status in this category.

As Shanghai evolves into a world-class "City of Design", it aims to make design a key driver for industrial innovation and development. This goal is pursued through collaboration with and learning from global peers.

According to Chen, the event aims to achieve several goals: creating vibrant urban spaces, enhancing social and public services, improving quality of life for residents, and contributing to the city's brand development.

Voters participating in the Shanghai Design 100+ program may receive prizes from a wide selection, including electric vehicles, accessories, toys, and cosmetics.
