Shanghai's Olympic athletes feted at Disney Resort 2024-09-09
Members of the Shanghai, China Delegation to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at the welcome ceremony hosted by Shanghai Disney Resort.
Shanghai Disney Resort last Saturday invited around 100 members of the Shanghai, China Delegation to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, hosting a celebratory homecoming at the theme park.
During a welcome ceremony, 13 Olympic athletes, including two-time Olympic table tennis champion Wang Liqin and Fan Zhendong, boxing champion Wu Yu, swimming champion Qin Haiyang and tennis silver medalist Zhang Zhizhen, showed up alongside Disney characters, greeted by cheers from park guests.
"This homecoming of Shanghai-based Olympians has become a beloved tradition since Shanghai Disney Resort's grand opening," said Joe Schott, president and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, during the ceremony.
"We are delighted to host Shanghai Olympic athletes at this magical place and celebrate their incredible achievements with all guests together," said Schott. "We hope that their perseverance and courageous pursuit of their dreams will inspire more people."
"Today, we gather together at Shanghai Disneyland, where our Shanghai athletes will relax and enjoy the happiness and joy of Disney, while celebrating their achievements with all of you," said Lu Lin, deputy director general of Shanghai Sports Bureau.
"We believe this wonderful memory will stay with everyone, providing warmth and strength during training and competitions in the future, while also inspiring us to continue working hard and moving forward," Lu added.
As a highlight of the celebration, representatives of the athletes were invited to lead the Mickey's Storybook Express parade as Grand Marshals. They also made an appearance at the entry portal, where they interacted with Disney characters.
"I hope the fighting spirit of Shanghai athletes will give all of you inspiration and courage to pursue your own dreams," said Lu.
