International youth football tournament set to kick off in Yangpu   2025-07-21

Teams from five countries will take part in the 2025 Baiyangdian Cup Shanghai International Youth Football Tournament, to be held in Yangpu District from July 28 to 31.

The four international teams invited for this year's tournament are Spain's Elevent Sport Barcelona, Japan's Sanfrecce Hiroshima FC, Gwangju Shinhwa Youth FC from South Korea, and W.I.G.NAGA FC from Laos. They will be joined by the four domestic teams of Chinese Football Boys, Zhejiang FC, Guangzhou QASF FC, and Yangpu Baiyangdian Team.

Expect competition to be fierce.

The eight teams will compete in a round-robin format, accumulating points throughout the tournament as they vie for the championship trophy.

Baiyangdian Football Stadium will host the matches from July 28 to 30, while the final round of clashes on July 31 have been arranged at Jiangwan Stadium.

The two matches featuring Yangpu Baiyangdian vs Elevent Sport Barcelona, and Chinese Football Boys vs Sanfrecce Hiroshima FC will be open to the public for free.

A football-themed carnival will be arranged beside Jiangwan Stadium, providing food, drink and commercial product choices.

First launched in 2011, the Shanghai International Youth Football Tournament has witnessed the growth of a group of young local footballers, including Shanghai Port's 19-year-old rising player Li Xinxiang. Li took part in the 2019 edition of the tournament and led Shanghai Yangpu Team to the top of the podium with seven straight victories.

The tournament has helped train many young local footballers.
