"Retrospective of German Film Masters," launched by the Shanghai Art Film Federation, will be held at Shanghai Film Art Center from July 25 to August 3, with online ticket sales starting from 12pm, July 23 on Taopiaopiao and Maoyan apps.

The program, celebrating the 130th anniversary of world cinema and the 80th anniversary of victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, will screen eight works including "The Boat," "Downfall," "Lili Marleen," "Aguirre, The Wrath of God," "Nosferatu: Phantom of the Night," "The Adventures of Prince Achmed," "Dancing Dreams" and "Class Relations."

Among them, classic war epics are the highlight.

Directed by Wolfgang Petersen, "The Boat" vividly depicts the perils faced by a submarine crew during World War II. Considered to be Germany's most successful film since "Metropolis," it received six nominations at the 55th Academy Awards.
Klaus Kinski stars in "Aguirre, the Wrath of God."

Oliver Hirschbiegel's "Downfall," nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 77th Academy Awards, is another classic. Adapted from the work of a renowned historian, it chronicles Adolf Hitler's final 12 days.

Two legendary works by Werner Herzog, "Aguirre, the Wrath of God" and "Nosferatu: Phantom of the Night," will also be screened. The two critically acclaimed films also mark the director's collaboration with renowned actor Klaus Kinski.

The retrospective will also feature a screening of "The Adventures of Prince Achmed" directed by Lotte Reiniger. An undisputed silhouette animation masterpiece, it is the earliest surviving animated film in the world.

In commemoration of the 85th anniversary of the birth of modern dance master Pina Bausch, the documentary "Dancing Dreams" will be screened on July 27.

All films presented in the exhibition are digital or digitally restored, with the optimal screening formats carefully selected to provide an audiovisual feast.
