World’s longest 20,000-km flight set to link Shanghai and Buenos Aires via Auckland 2025-09-15

Shanghai-Auckland-Buenos Aires route has officially opened for booking recently, with its inaugural flight scheduled for December 4, the CCTV News reported last Thursday.
This is the only direct route between China and Argentina that requires no transfers, covering a total distance of 20,000 kilometers. Once launched, it will set a new record as the world's longest flight, according to the report.
The new route, planned to be operated with a Boeing 777, will run twice weekly—Shanghai to Buenos Aires on Mondays and Thursdays in 25 hours 55 minutes, and Buenos Aires to Shanghai on Tuesdays and Fridays in 29 hours, according to the report.
Compared with the "northbound corridor" via Europe or North America, this "southbound corridor" through New Zealand is shorter, faster, and reduces jet lag during transfers. Eastern Airlines also plans to apply for fifth freedom rights for the route, allowing passengers and cargo to board and disembark in Auckland, promoting trade and people-to-people exchanges among China, New Zealand, and Argentina, the report said.
