McDonald's China announced on Tuesday an investment of more than 400 million yuan (about 56.3 million U.S. dollars) in talent training and development over the next three years, with a focus on modernizing its Hamburger University in Shanghai.

The initiative aims to upgrade the Hamburger University in three dimensions -- "smarter, more open, and more holistic growth" -- to build a restaurant talent cultivation system for the digital era.

The investment announcement coincides with the 15th anniversary of McDonald's Hamburger University China, which was established in 2010 as the company's seventh global training center. The academy currently trains nearly 10,000 participants annually and supports nearly 200,000 employees via an online e-learning platform.

Phyllis Cheung, CEO of McDonald's China, noted that the company's expansion -- from over 1,000 restaurants in 2010 when the Hamburger University was established to more than 7,400 today -- underscores the institution's role as a cornerstone of its talent development system.

Lily Li, dean of McDonald's Hamburger University China, said facing the needs of talent development in a new era, the academy will cultivate more outstanding restaurant management talent for the future.
