The Wonder of Patterns: Masterpieces from India, Iran and the Ottoman World from the Musée du Louvre, is the largest exhibition of the Louvre in Shanghai. The exhibition is going on at the Museum of Art Pudong from Dec 13 to May 6.

Starting with four pieces from the collection of the king of France, Louis XIV, the largest showcase of the Louvre in China is taking place in Shanghai, featuring more than 300 artifacts from the museum's collection.

The Wonder of Patterns: Masterpieces from India, Iran and the Ottoman World from the Musée du Louvre is open at the Museum of Art Pudong in Shanghai from Dec 13 to May 6.

With exhibits encompassing a wide range of mediums, including ceramics, carpets, paintings, jewelry, glass, and so on, it offers a broad perspective spanning the 16th to 19th century. Some of them are on public showcase for the first time.

The title of the exhibition, The Wonder of Patterns, connects the artistic characters of the three worlds in this period. The Mughal Dynasty, the Safavid Dynasty, and the Ottoman Empire have distinctive aesthetics, tastes, and their respective metropolises, and yet they share a common artistic language.

Today, people can clearly recognize the contemporary echoes of these ancient designs in high jewelry, architectural decoration, bookbinding, and graphic design, according to the curator. This is precisely what the exhibition hopes to captivate young audiences with: discovering the enduring modernity and vitality within classical patterns.
