Ordinary people honored for brave acts   2016-11-10

 

 

CHEN Donghai stopped a knife-wielding man from hijacking a woman as she drove out of a shopping mall; Wang Yujun saved a 10-year-old girl from her burning home, suffering burns himself in the rescue.

They were among 22 people awarded for bravery yesterday by the city government. The two each received 10,000 yuan (US$1,475) and others, generally part of groups, received 5,000 yuan.

Chen was cut during a struggle when he stepped in to stop the man with the knife at the mall in Songjiang District in August last year. His help lead to the arrest of the man, who was later jailed for two years.
